HISTORICAL FACT

WHITING 50 TON Crane Illustration Island Station’s 50-ton Whiting overhead crane was installed in 1932 with the purpose of installing and moving some of the huge power generating equipment used at the plant. The crane was built by the Whiting Foundry Equipment Company of Harvey, Illinois, who was at that time a leader in design and manufacture of overhead cranes and material handling equipment.

EVENS HOWARD ACME Firebrick Illustration The firebricks that lined the combustion chamber of Island Station were made by Evens & Howard Fire Brick Company of St. Louis Missouri. Evens & Howard furnished Island Station with more than 1,500,000 bricks of varying sizes.
